The school context questions you should be asking do not reflect school quality. Rather they provide information about the student population and the surrounding community so that you can view the other measures in the context of the communities your schools serve.

Note: The measures that appear in this guide feature at least national and comparable state data. We provide suggestions for finding other data at the local level that also represent good measures of success.

Questions you should be asking

How many students attend our schools?

What is the poverty level of our schools?

What is the racial and ethnic makeup of our schools?

How many English language learners are in our schools?

How many students with disabilities are in our schools?
