School funding questions are not easy to sort out. Because all states have different criteria for procuring and spending education dollars, there are no easy answers for questions such as where education dollars come from, how they are spent, and whether or not they are being distributed equally among all schools and students. These questions you should be asking can help you find answers and determine whether or not your students are getting the best education for your tax dollars spent.
Note: The measures that appear in this guide feature at least national and comparable state data. We provide suggestions for finding other data at the local level that also represent good measures of success.
Questions you should be asking
What are our school district's expenditures?
How much money does our school district receive from federal, state, and local sources?
Is our school funding equitable?
