Home > Research and Practice > Good measures for good schools > Student achievement Student achievement

Students' academic development is the core mission of schools.  These questions you should be asking will help you determine how well all students in your schools are achieving.

Note: The measures that appear in this guide feature at least national and comparable state data. We provide suggestions for finding other data at the local level that also represents good measures of success.

Questions you should be asking

How do students in our state compare nationally?

How do our schools compare to other schools within the state?

Are our schools meeting state performance standards?

Are our students ready for college?
