How do you know if schools are doing a good job? Test scores get a lot of attention for what they say about student achievement, but test scores are just one measure of school performance. In these pages, we look at available indicators to help you understand what these indicators say about public education and what they don't. We also provide links to resources for performance data for individual schools, districts, and states in addition to national and international indicators.

Findings from Education Vital Signs: The annual report on education progress from the American School Board Journal.

The latest from the Nation's Report Card: 2007 National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) scores in math and reading.

Quick links to online data sources: Find out how your child's school is performing, compare your district's education spending to neighboring communities, check up on school safety, and more.

The Center for Public Education is an initiative of the National School Boards Association and the National School Boards Foundation.
